About Us

Uplifting Resources to Deploy IPv6, DNS/DNSSEC, identity access management and monitoring of the network performance and its security

Project UPROUSEwithLEARN is an Asi@Connect Grant awarded to Lanka Education and Research Network (LEARN) under the above title with the relevance of work package 3: R&E Network Design & Operations and associated capacity development.

LEARN in collaboration with Royal University of Bhutan, Lao Education and Research Network and APNIC is undertaking this project to develop beneficiary NREN campus networks to support services related with IPv6, DNSSEC, Identity Access Management, Security and Monitoring the performance. This will be undertaken as a direct engineering project providing on-site support basically to Royal University of Bhutan and Laos R&E institutes.

Three workshops are planned to be host by this project:
  • IPv6 Deployment
  • DNS and DNS Security
  • Network Security and performance

Why we do this

LEARN as the NREN of Sri Lanka always try to collaborate with regional NRENs in building the capacity of its technical manpower. We are in collaboration with our regional NRENs working on many training programs and also conducting similar programs to our member institutions within the country.

In comparison to other NRENs in the region, both NREN at Bhutan and Lao are still young and faces many challenges. Moreover, both has very limited resources in terms of network equipment, network engineers’ experience, number of applications, security and budget. Although most of the members of R & E network has well furbished server room with new equipment’s to improve their core networks from the government or external agency, there still exist areas for continued development and enhancement in terms of human resource development.

The main purpose of the program is to fulfill the following set of objectives:

Capacity Building

To build the capacity of NREN engineers to manage and maintain their own network so that it can support the latest technology and be able to connect to global connectivity such as TEIN.

Promote R & E collaboration

To increase and promote R & E collaboration within as well as international through available network

Provide Technical Backstopping

To provide direct technical backstopping in designing, optimization of equipment and monitor networks in developing campus network
